March 10th 1958 Durant, Oklahoma

Funeral Services were held at Murray Funeral Sevice chapel at 2:30 PM today for William P. Quarles, 85 year old long time Durant resident, died at Atoka, Saturday, after a long illness. Services were conducted by Rev. Carl Thomas, and burial was in Highland Cemetary. Pall bearers were Mark Mills, Ira Rambo, Harold Marshall, Ollie MacDonald, R.P. Black and Clyde Hubbard. A native of Tennessee, Mr. Quarles had lived in Durant 46 years, and was a retired laborer. He was a member of the Baptist Church. Survivors include his wife,Qullie Ann, of the home address, two sons, Allen and Jess Quarles, Durant: a brother Tony Quarles, Jasper Tennessee, 12 grandchildren, 20 great grandchildren and three great-great grandchildren.

November 25, 1979 Durant, Oklahoma

Mary Etter Quarles Entered into eternal rest Thursday, Nov. 22, 1979. Service was held Saturday at the 7th and Beech Church of Christ for Mary Etter QUARLES,83, who died Thursday in Muskogee. She spent most of her life in Bryan county, and had been residing in Kiowa. Willie TOLISON officiated, and burial was in Highland cemetary. She is survived by children Beartice, OK.; Opal, OK; Rosie Lee, TX; Paralee , TX; Arval, OK.; Naomi, OK.; Virgie Mae, TX; Robert, LA.; and Frank, TX. Casket bearers were W.J. BRYANT, Troy BRYANT, Roy BRYANT, Wallace BURTON,Troy PHILLIPS, and Archie CARPENTER. Murray Funeral home handled arrangements.

Funeral service will be held at 10 AM Monday a Dalton-Holmes Chapel for Opal P. Quarles-Bryant, 73, Durant, who died Friday, Jan 9, 1998, at MCSO.The Rev. Robert Chandler will officiate.Mrs. Bryant was born on Feb. 21, 1924, in Cobb to William Allen Quarles and Mary Etter (Grimmett) Quarles.She was a retired nurse and of the Baptist faith.She married Lloyd R. Bryant on Sept. 5, 1942, in the Durant area.She was preceeded in death by her son William R. "Bill" Bryant, and parents Mary and William Quarles.Survivors include her husband, Lloyd Bryant, Durant. Daughter Beulah M. Phillips and husband Troy, Durant, brothers Robert Quarles and wife Mary, Bossier City, LA.,and Frank Quarles and wife Gwen, Plano, Texas, sisters Beatrice Burton, Durant, Naomi Hughes and husband Collin, Muskogee, Arval Thomas, Savannah, Rosie William and husband Travis and Lee Elrod, all of Houston, and Virgie Yienger, Conroe, Texas, grandchildren Sheila J. Long and husband Donnie, Buddy Phillips and wife Kathy and Dina R. Jones and husband Darrell, all of Durant, and great-grandchildren Mitchell Long,Jordan Phillips, and Coday Jones all of Durant. Burial will be in Highland Cemetary.

Arval Viola Quarles-Thomas, 80, of Savanna, died Thursday, May 24, 2001, at Walnut Grove Living Center. The family will grett friends from 7 to 8 tonight at Bishop Funeral Home. Funeral services will be at 10AM Saturday at Savanna First Baptist Church with the Rev. Kyle Cummings officiating. Burial will be at Savanna Cemetary under the direction of Bishop Service of McAlester. Arval was born Dec. 31, 1920, in Durant ans was the daughter of William Allen and Mary Etta Grimmitt Quarles. She graduated from Cobb High School. Arval Married Grady Emery Thomas on Dec 21, 1941, in Durant, Where they lived until 1950. She then moved to Savanna and worked for Seamprufe for 15 years and the United States Naval Ammunition Depot in Savanna for 15 years until her retirement in 1972, when she then was a homemaker for numerous years. She was an avid quilt maker and was a member of the Savana First Baptist Church, where she taught the Middle Adults Sunday School Class for over 40 years. Survivors include her three daughters and sons-in-law, Gale and Jim Brewster of McAlester and Dianne Vickers and Susan and Ronald Burks, all of Savanna; two sons and daughters-in-law, Ronnie and Leona Thomas of Oklahoma City and Randy and Kathy Thomas of Durant. Also, two brothers and sisters-in-law, Robert and Mary Quarles, Bossier City, LA. and Frank and Gwen Quarles, Plano, Texas; Three sisters and a brother-in-law, Rosie and Travis Williams, Parlee Elrod and Virgie Yienger, all of Houston, Texas.And, her grandchildren, Phyllis Brewster, Thomas Vickers, John Thomas, Robert Brester, Jay Thomas, Janice Deaton, Sarah Thomas, Leanne Jay, Lonnie Burks and Kristy Wilbanks and 9 great-grandchildren. Pallbearers will be Robert Brewster, Thomas Vickers, Jay Thomas, John Thomas, Jim Brewster and Ronald Burks. She is preceeded in death by her father William Quarles in 1963; her mother in 1982; her husband, Grady Thomas on June 21, 1989 and four sisters, Clara Quarles, Opal Bryant, Naiomi Hughes and Beatrice Burton.

W.C. Grimmet Dies; Services Set Wednesday

Last rites will be held at 2:30 p.m. Wednesday in the Murray funeral chapel for Walter C. Grimmett, 63, lifetime resident of Bryan County, who has died Monday at the Veterands Adminstration hosptial in McKinney, Texas.,after a long illness of four months. Rev. White will officiate at the services. Burial, under direction of Murray funeral service, will be in Highland Cemetary. Mr. Grimmett, who resided at 1021 N. Katy, Durant, was preceded in death by his wife. He was born in Bryan county to the late Mr. Mr & Mrs. J.C. Grimmett. He was engaged in concrete construction work and was a member of theMethodist church and the American Legion. The deceased is survived by three daughters, Mrs. Lola Good of Sanger, Texas, and Mrs. Lorene Shires and Mrs. Ruby Moore, both of Witchita Falls, Texas: A brother, W.B. Grimmett of Durant; three sisters, Mrs. Mattie Holder of Houston, Texas, and Mrs. Myrtle Kornell and Mrs. Etter Quarles, both of Durant, and four grandchildren. Members of the American Legion will serve as pallbearers, and the American Legion will conduct military graveside rites.
